What should a good recruitment process include?
A good recruitment process usually includes clearly defining the role, advertising the vacancy, screening applications, shortlisting candidates, structured interviews, reference checks and a documented selection decision. A consistent process helps employers compare candidates fairly and make more informed hiring decisions.
Can employers ask anything they want during a job interview?
No. Employers should keep interview questions relevant to the role and avoid questions that could lead to discriminatory decision-making. Under the Fair Work Act, prospective employees are protected from adverse action for discriminatory reasons, including attributes such as age, sex, race, disability, pregnancy, family responsibilities and religion.
Do job advertisements need to meet Fair Work requirements?
Yes. Job advertisements cannot include pay rates that breach the Fair Work Act or an applicable workplace instrument such as a Modern Award or enterprise agreement.
What should be included in employee onboarding?
Onboarding should help a new employee understand their role, workplace expectations, key policies, systems, responsibilities and who they can go to for support. Fair Work also recommends using induction to explain expectations and give new starters an opportunity to ask questions.
What information must new employees receive when they start?
All new employees must receive the Fair Work Information Statement before, or as soon as possible after, they start work. Casual employees must also receive the Casual Employment Information Statement, and employees entering a new fixed-term contract must receive the Fixed Term Contract Information Statement.
Can HR Dynamics manage the whole recruitment process?
Yes. Depending on what your organisation needs, HR Dynamics can support individual parts of the recruitment process or assist across the full process, from defining the role and advertising through to shortlisting, interviews, reference checks, selection and onboarding.
